Matthews Smacks Down A “Birther” Conspirator

By Che

This clip has become viral on the blogs, but I wanted to point out some of the ridiculous statements that Congressman John Campbell made.

Campbell said:

This controversy is not new. Remember there was [sic] questions about John McCain…But the fact is if John McCain had become president, you would be having this issue on the other side.

Yes I do remember, but that is because I am a political nerd. Most average Americans would not know, or even care, that McCain was born on a U.S. military facility.

No one would be questioning John McCain, because he is white. This has everything to do with Obama being black, and the perpetuation of the myth that he is Muslim.

Anybody who runs for president, you, me, whoever, that we meet the constitutional requirements. 35 years of age, been a resident of the country for 15 years, or whatever it is…

Or whatever it is? He doesn’t even know the requirements himself.

When Matthews asked the congressman if the bill will put questions about Obama’s place of birth to rest, Campbell said:

Yeah it probably will…Because he’ll probably run again in 2012.

Even though Campbell was adamant about the fact that this bill is about “looking forward, and not about Barack Obama,” Matthews got him to admit that it is about Obama, because he would have to prove that he was born in the U.S. in 2012.

As for Chris Matthews, he did a pretty good job of holding this guy’s feet to the fire. The only issue I have with Matthews was he did not come out and ask Campbell why there are questions about Obama’s citizenship.

What I mean by this, is when Campbell said that this legislation will put all of the questions to rest about Obama, Matthews asked “what questions?”. Matthews should have asked “why are there questions?”.

I know it seems like I am splitting hairs here, but the questions have been well established. Asking the congressman “why” are there questions would have pinned him down and forced him to expose himself as a nut.

I said it once…I’ll say it again:
Republicans are babies when it comes to losing.
The real fact is: They can not stand the fact that an African-American is President.
That type of mindset does not serve our great Nation well here…or in the world.
