Is The New GI JOE Movie American Enough?
Although it is always great to watch a debate get heated to the point where one calls the other “ignorant,” this is not the reason I am posting this clip.
I have always had a problem with people like conservative columnist, John Miller, who spew this manufactured facade of patriotism, as they simultaneously criticize others for being unAmerican.
John Miller loves his country so much that he is outraged at the fact that Hollywood only makes “anti-war” movies. Miller says that if he were a movie investor, he would make movies about American heroes fighting in Fallujah and Afghanistan. Apparently because saying or doing this, makes him more patriotic.
It is people like Mr. Miller who love to romantically pontificate about war, yet when it comes time to fight one, they are nowhere to be found.
This is the same old tactic that many use to disguise the fact that they have sacrificed nothing for this country. What gives Mr. Miller the right to dictate the criteria as to what is American and what is not?
Unfortunately this tactic has been successful in the past, and it will continue to be successful. So bravo!!! Mr. Miller for successfully distracting the public from your conservative economic agenda that is killing American jobs at home, and your jingoistic foreign policy that is killing American soldiers abroad, with your superficial demonstration of patriotism.
John Miller… You are a “true American.”

Well we are fresh off of the first time in this nation’s history where we fought a war and cut taxes.
As I always say…Fight the rich, not their wars.

Hollywood making anti-war movies? First, I can’t think of very many anti-war movies that have been recently released. In fact, isn’t the big grip about Hollywood is that their movies are too violent?
What a great cause to take up. Let’s protest all of those horrible anti-war movies. Hopefully some day soon we will realize our dream that every major blockbuster will have its fair share of blood and gore.

I feel like there are valid points all around, but the host on NBC is being quite a jackass. It’s not helping his case.

GI Joe changed in its 1980’s reincarnation to be an international force (complete with it’s “new” acronymed name) because of international tensions and wider market appeal then. Miller is about 20 years too late and NBC needs to do some fact checking or social history analysis.

Correction, in their *1970*s reincarnation GI Joe was originally changed. These changes for wider appeal, including generically international baddies with bad accents, continued through the 1980s.
