Beck Accuses Obama Of “Poking” Our Traditional Allies, But Fails To Mention The Irreparable Damage Bush Did To Our International Standing In the World

By Che

Granted, if you want fair and balanced, you might want to think about steering clear of Beck, but is it too much to ask of Glenn Beck to not be a revisionist?

Beck not only accuses Obama of poking America’s traditional allies, he also says that Obama has embraced our enemies.

What allies has he poked? What enemies has he embraced?

If engaging in dialogue with someone is Beck’s definition of embracing, then Beck embraces ACORN, because didn’t he have an ACORN representative on his show a while back? This association by discussion is lunacy and only adds to Beck’s reputation of being “bat shit” crazy.

Not only is Beck simply wrong about Obama turning his back on our traditional allies, he fails to mention the fact that America’s reputation in the world under George Bush precipitously dropped throughout Bush’s tenure as Commander in Chief. This did not happen because Bush was playing nice with our allies. In fact I think it was former Secretary of Defense, Donald Rumsfeld, who called our European allies “Old Europe” when they did not back us in our march toward a war of choice in Iraq.

Early in 2007, the BBC reported that confidence in the United States was sharply on the wane. Just 29% of those polled in 18 countries viewed the U.S. mainly as a force for good in the world. Clear majorities disapproved of U.S. policy toward Israel, Iraq, Iran and North Korea, as well as the prison at Guantanamo and the administration’s stance on global warming.

Countries, that most would consider staunch U.S. allies, prior to the Bush Administration, such as Germany, Spain, and France, saw U.S. favorability ratings drop to well under 50% amongst their people.

Polls that show America’s reputation under Bush tanking are abundant. Take for instance the Pew Global Attitudes Project released in 2007. This poll showed startling lows in important nations like Britain.

Nothing compares however, to the disdain for Bush’s America demonstrated by the Turks, NATO allies and a geographic bridge between Europe and the Middle East. In Turkey, the U.S. received a favorability rating of only 9 percent.

Beck can demagogue all he wants about Obama’s love for dictators and radicals, and his refusal to be a team player with our traditional allies. The problem with Beck’s bluster, is it is simply not true.

Stay classy Glenn!!!
