Hannity: I Am Not A Republican

This news would be monumental, if Hannity weren’t so full of crap.

If Hannity were a true conservative, and not a Republican slappy, he would have removed his nose from the backside of the Bush Administration a long time ago. If Hannity is a true conservative, then I guess true conservatives support:

  • Nation building on the other side of the world.
  • Huge increases in government handouts to the drug industry.
  • A massive spike in the national deficit.
  • A massive spike in the national debt.
  • Trampling on the civil liberties of American citizens.

Last time I checked, true conservatives were against all of this.

Other than the hilarity of Hannity saying he is not a Republican, there is also the perplexing fact that 40% of Americans consider themselves conservative.

Problems arise when we simply slap labels on factions of Americans like this. For instance, what is the definition of conservative? There are fiscal conservatives, as well a social conservatives. Do the pollsters responsible for this poll distinguish between the two? The answer to this question is no, they do not distinguish between the two. The Gallup Poll question that generated these polling results was:

How do you describe your political views?

Let’s be honest, Americans are some of the most politically ignorant people in the industrialized world. The United States is lucky if it gets a 50% turn out of all its registered voters. I am willing to bet that if Gallup took the time to explain what it means to be politically conservative or politically liberal, those numbers would drastically change.

Think about it, if the majority of the country is in fact “conservative,” shouldn’t that translate into a majority of conservative political representation? Well, it should if the Gallup poll was worth the paper it was printed on.

The fact is, many Republicans are realizing that the only way they can remain in office, is if they abandoned their archaic conservative principles and become more progressive.
